篇名:Dimples on Demand 作者:Tom Hilditch 出處:South China Morning Post,2002年11月29日(文末Source標註清楚)
內容大意:這是一篇關於香港樂壇組合Twins(鍾欣潼Gillian Chung、蔡卓妍Charlene Choi)的人物特寫報導。
- 背景鋪陳 (L.9-20):交代Twins現象嘅商業本質(sentimental/manufactured industry)
Trigger:題目問"the writer's attitude towards..." 或 "the tone of the passage is..."
- "shamelessly placed" (L.26)
- "dollar signs revolving in his eyes" (L.41) — 誇張畫面感,暗諷商業化
- "saccharine Canto-pop duo" (L.99)
Trigger
- 對比人物性格:Chung被形容"the older...does seem more worldly";Choi被指做"secret smoker"、"first boyfriend scandal"嘅source——即係文章暗示兩人形象反差(Chung世故 vs Choi緋聞纏身)
- 反差結尾嘅用意:Q可能問"why does the writer end with the burp?" → Tool:搵返開頭"the secret of...her smile"呼應,暗示台前形象與台後真我嘅反差,係全文主題句
助手: 見到你呢份Google表單得返 Q2-Q14(缺咗Q1嘅畫面),當中錯咗 4題:Q10、Q11、Q12、Q14(你話5題,如果仲有Q1都錯咗,可以話埋畀我睇,我一齊分析)。
(L.95-96):"She puts down her chopsticks and burps, a big, loud, rice-box burp. It's so un-Twin-like..."
Q11 — 'At least for now' 推斷
你答:become even more famous 正確:not stay together forever
原文(L.98-100):"...she is one half of the most saccharine Canto-pop duo in Hong Kong. At least for now."
8(L.76-82):"if they split up, could they survive apart?"
- "At least for now" 係一個hedging qualifier(保留語氣詞),意思係「呢個狀態暫時係咁,但唔保證會長期咁樣」
- "become even more famous" 喺原文完全冇根據支持,呢個係捏造嘅推斷方向
呢篇文一早已經用conjoined twins比喻同"could they survive apart"埋咗伏筆。
你答:1,3 and 4(Gary Hamilton, RTHK, multi-nationals) 正確:1 and 4(Gary Hamilton, multi-nationals)
D. tells the life stories of the two girls 正確:A. meets the duo who have won the hearts of Hongkongers
(L.15-20 "no immunity against their faces", omnipresent),呢兩點正正對應A:「meets」(親身見面/採訪) + "won the hearts of Hongkongers"(全城受落嘅程度)
用戶:[上傳1張圖片:Q1截圖,"Paragraph 1 tells the reader how..."]
Q1 — Paragraph 1
你答:innocent Chung is 正確:unnatural Chung's smile is
Para 1 具體寫緊嘅係製造呢個笑容嘅機制——即係Q2都已經確認咗嘅"this"=movement of the mouth(rolling her lips inward)。
- 用「秘訣/技巧」(the secret of her smile)呢種講法去形容,即係暗示背後有練習/設計
5. My Left Foot + Urban Legends
用戶:[上傳8張圖片:My Left Foot Passage A全文+Q1-14截圖;Urban Legends Passage A全文+Q1-14截圖] 不用,這裡還有兩篇你分析一下,這個對話框先累積,最後再整理
Passage B — My Left Foot (Christy Brown)
Q12 — "writer's last attempt to draw letter 'A'" 圖像對應題
你答:C(似"F"形狀) 正確:D(歪歪斜斜嘅"A")
"I drew one side of the letter. I drew half the other side. Then the stick of chalk broke and I was left with a stump... I tried once more... But – I drew it – the letter 'A'. There it was on the floor before me. Shaky, with wobbly sides and an incomplete centre line. But it was the letter 'A'."
Q14 — "written words are more ...... than spoken words"
"...I couldn't speak with my lips, but now I would speak through something more lasting than spoken words – written words."
你揀"expressive",好可能係俾上一句"expressing itself"呢個字眼吸引咗("the thing that was to give my mind its chance of expressing itself")——但嗰句講緊嘅係「表達自己嘅機會」,同「written words比spoken words更點樣」呢個比較關係係兩件事。
Passage C — Urban Legends
"As the students rushed across the campus...each was accosted by a forlorn beggar who asked for their help. None of the students stopped for him – they all rushed by..."
- "None of the students stopped for him"先係講學生嘅反應(忽視佢)
呢類「主謂關係錯配」陷阱同你上次Q12(Twins文,邊個賺緊錢)犯嘅係同一種錯。
你答:the dance 正確:the jacket
原文(L.38-41):
"At one point, the father took off his jacket to dance. When he later retrieved it, he discovered that the money was missing."
你答:D(淨係得個未開封糖包,冇茶) 正確:C(有散開嘅茶葉+未開封糖包同時喺杯入面)
原文(L.44-48):
"...he had torn open his tea bag and emptied its contents into his cup...the bag itself was meant to be dipped, unopened...he thanked me...and then confidently dropped an unopened envelope of sugar into his tea."
Urban Legends Q11
6. Trigger
Trigger
"I was now five, and still as helpless as a newly-born baby. Mother was slowly, patiently pulling down the wall, brick by brick, that seemed to separate me and the other children. It was hard, heart-breaking work, for often all she got from me in return was a vague smile and perhaps a faint gurgling sound."
- "heart-breaking" ——呢個字帶強烈情感判斷,通常會問"why heart-breaking"(要搵返個原因子句"for often all she got...")→ 你哋Q2就係考呢個
"I was lonely, imprisoned in a world of my own... I longed to run about and play with the rest, but I could not break loose from my prison."
- 有距離嘅代詞(this/it/they)
- 轉折詞(but/then/however/at least)
(Positive Attitude)
(Negative/Critical)
六、態度/立場詞(形容作者敘事姿態,常見喺"the writer's tone/attitude is...")
I was now five, and still as helpless as a newly-born baby. Mother was slowly, patiently pulling down the wall, brick by brick, that seemed to separate me and the other children. It was
hard, heart-breakingwork, for often all she got from me in return was avaguesmile and perhaps afaintgurgling sound.
- 題目冇畫line number(好似"according to paragraph 2")→ 睇返你喺個段標低嘅▭方框(段首/段尾主題句),嗰句通常已經係答案骨幹
In approximately 200 B.C., he was the commander... Because his army was small and because they were not well armed, he planned a surprise attack... the string was marked. Later Han measured the string in order to determine how long a tunnel would be needed... Their plan brought victory, and the emperor was overthrown.
- "Because...and because"(雙重原因連接詞)——呢類「兩個原因迭埋一齊」係multi-item roman numeral題嘅溫床(例:"Han Hsin's army had trouble because 1... 2...")
- "in order to"(目的連接詞)——「佢做呢個動作嘅目的係咩」,通常直接問"why did Han measure the string"
(L.24-25 "Han Hsin and his troops easily defeated")互相呼應,即係兩個版本故事都指向同一個結果
Several versions of this story exist. ... The voice told them they were needed at home and that they would be killed if they stayed... The next day, many of the soldiers fled...
- "told them...and that..."(雙重理由)——again兩個逃走原因迭埋,多項判斷題陷阱
- "The next day"(時序詞)——排序題常用
...a samurai warrior who broke the law of the emperor. He was punished by being exiled... Because he did not want his son to spend his life on a deserted island, the warrior built a large kite. He tied his son to the kite and lifted him from the island to the mainland.
- "Because he did not want..."(因果連接詞)——「佢起隻鷂嘅原因」,直接對應問題材料
Japan, like China, has many stories..."(L.27)已經明示咗比較結構——中日故事平行對照,大機會有題問「兩個故事嘅共通點/分別」
Festivals and Celebrations in Japan (L.36-69) —— 呢段trigger密度最高
Historians believe kites came to Japan between the sixth and the eighth century... As late as the seventeenth century, kites were still associated primarily with religious purposes and secondarily with non-religious activities. ...kite could predict the success or failure of crops... During the past two to three hundred years, much of the religious significance of kite flying has been replaced by more non-religious pleasures. Today, only the very oldest Japanese people might accept that... A New Year kite means much the same to a Japanese child as a Christmas present means to a Western child.
- "Historians believe"(推測動詞)——唔係「事實」,係「史學家嘅推斷」,選項如果講到好肯定("it is a fact that...")
- "As late as the seventeenth century"(時間標記+隱含對比)——"as late as"本身暗示「去到咁遲仲係咁」,即係暗示之後有變化,要留意後文有冇轉折
- "might"(弱程度詞,▲)——"only the very oldest...might accept"——注意呢個係弱推測,唔係「全部人都咁信」
A New Year kite...as a Christmas present..."——呢個analogy考嘅係「你明唔明呢個比喻想帶出咩」(即係「對兩地文化嘅重要性對等」)
Fighting Kites (L.70-76)
One popular activity which grew out of kite festivals is kite fighting. The string...is partly coated with powdered glass, sharp sand, ground pottery, or even knife blades. The kite flyer attempts to bring down his opponent's kite by cutting its line.
標記:
- "grew out of"(起源連接詞)——問「fighting kites點解會出現」
Kites in Europe (L.77-91)
In the fifteenth century, Leonardo da Vinci developed a method... Later, in the 1850s, his method was used to help... but they were mainly seen as a diversion for children. The first use of kites for scientific purposes was in 1749. ...he raised several kites in train (several kites attached to the same line so that they fly at different heights).
標記:
- "In the fifteenth century...Later, in the 1850s"(兩個相隔幾百年嘅日期)——呢類「相隔幾耐先被應用」嘅時間差距係經典考點("how long after da Vinci's method was it used for bridges" 呢類題)
- "commonplace and quite popular but...mainly seen as a diversion for children"("but"轉折)——「流行」同「淨係用嚟俾細路玩」係兩件事,轉折詞提示緊唔好將兩者混為一談(唔係"popular for scientific purposes")
- "first use...was in 1749"("first"+日期)——事實題,但要留意呢個係「首次用作科學用途」,唔係「首次出現」
Kites in the United States (L.92-105)
Benjamin Franklin...flew it in a rainstorm. This experiment successfully proved that lightning had the same properties as electricity. Early pioneers in aerodynamics did an amazing variety of experiments... Kite technology enabled scientists and engineers to develop an understanding...that eventually led to the sophisticated types of air travel available today.
- "enabled...eventually led to...today"(因果鏈+連到「現在」)——呢句將200 B.C.嘅Han Hsin一直拉到「而家嘅航空科技」,好可能就係全文主旨/總結題嘅材料("what is the main purpose/theme of the whole article")
Tool:
Tool:
Source: Adapted from an article by Kay Wilson, North Texas Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts, URL http://www.art.unt.edu/ntieva/artcurr/asian/kites.html
大標題"Kites",跟住即刻見到底下有成幾個bold小標題: "Early Kite Stories" / "Festivals and Celebrations in Japan" / "Fighting Kites" / "Kites in Europe" / "Kites in the United States"
"One of the early kite stories is about a famous Chinese general, Han Hsin. In approximately 200 B.C., he was the commander of a rebel army..."
(200 B.C., 1749, 1850s, sixth-eighth century...)
- ✅ 因果連接詞(because, in order to, enabled, grew out of)
- ✅ 對比/轉變標記(but, replaced by, as late as)
- ✅ 程度/推測詞(believe, might, primarily/secondarily)
篇一:Dimples on Demand(Twins特寫)
⏱ 0-2秒:睇source
Adapted from Tom Hilditch, "Dimples on demand", South China Morning Post, 29 November 2002.
"...seeing her empty hands, an aide passes her a stack of photographs and a..."(呢句已經係中段,但你上傳嘅開首段講緊"the secret of her smile"呢類描寫)
篇二:My Left Foot(Christy Brown自傳)
⏱ 0-2秒:睇source
Adapted from Christy Brown, My Left Foot, London: Vintage, 1998.
"I was now five, and still as helpless as a newly-born baby."
- ✅ 比較結構("more lasting than spoken words")
篇三:Urban Legends(都市傳說合集)
⏱ 0-2秒:睇source
Adapted from http://science.howstuffworks.com/urban-legend1.htm and http://www.snopes.com
To believe or not to believe: urban legends",底下有一串獨立短故事小標題:"You've failed" / "Quick thinking" / "Unlucky" / "The pilot with the dog" / "Caught on film" / "Confusing packaging"
"An urban legend is any modern story, usually fictional, but which is told as if it really happened."
- ✅ 每個小故事嘅轉折/爆點句(punchline,例如"the entire family gathered to watch the video...discovered...")——呢啲通常就係考位
- ✅ 每個故事結尾嘅態度/教訓——最後一題(Q14)問"one adjective to describe all these urban legends",呢類「總結全部例子共通點」嘅題目,正正對應咗呢種anthology結構嘅特徵
13. My Left Foot + Urban Legends
《My Left Foot》——
Para 1 (L.1-4)
I was now five, and still as helpless as a newly-born baby. Mother was slowly, patiently pulling down the wall, brick by brick, that seemed to separate me and the other children. It was hard, heart-breaking work, for often all she got from me in return was a vague smile and perhaps a faint gurgling sound.
Para 2 (L.5-7)
My relatives said I was an idiot. "Never!" said my mother almost fiercely... "It is his body that is shattered, not his mind. I'm sure of that."
Para 3 (L.8-11)
I was just a little bundle of crooked muscles... I was lonely, imprisoned in a world of my own... I longed to run about... but I could not break loose from my prison.
標記:imprisoned/my prison(比喻——實指身體局限,唔係真監獄)/ longed to(強度詞,換字題常見)/ 呢段同Para1一齊建立全文開場嘅「困局」基調,為後面"suddenly it happened"做對比鋪墊。
Para 4 (L.12-13)
Then, suddenly, it happened! In a moment everything was changed... so quickly, so simply after all the years of waiting...
Para 5 (L.14-21)
...using a bright piece of yellow chalk... It was the chalk that attracted me so much... without thinking or knowing exactly what I was doing, I reached out and took the stick of chalk...with my left foot. I do not know why I used my left foot... my left foot reached out and very impolitely took the chalk.
標記:without thinking/I do not know why(強調動作嘅無意識性,對應後面"impolitely"呢個反差評價字)/ impolitely(呢個字帶輕微負評,但下文會反轉做正面意義——呢個先兆好值得標)
Para 6 (L.22-24)
I held it tightly between my toes and made a wild scribble... Nobody stirred. I felt the sweat break out on my forehead.
Para 7 (L.25-30)
...she came over to me and knelt down beside me, as she had done so many times before. "I'll show you what to do with it, Chris," she said... "Copy it, Christy." I couldn't.
標記:as she had done so many times before(暗示之前已經試過好多次,呼應後文將會嘅多次嘗試)/ 段尾"I couldn't"極短促句——語氣轉折,對應緊後面兩段嘅「反覆嘗試」情節。
Para 8 (L.31-33)
...faces that were waiting for a miracle to happen... produced a very shaky line and nothing more.
標記:waiting for a miracle(誇張修辭,暗示眾人期望之高)/ 呢句係第一次嘗試,產出"a shaky line and nothing more"——留意呢個同Q12個陷阱直接相關:呢度先係第一次(唔完整),仲未到"last attempt"。
I drew one side of the letter. I drew half the other side. Then the stick of chalk broke... I tried once more... I set my teeth so hard that I nearly bit my lower lip. But – I drew it – the letter 'A'. Shaky, with wobbly sides and an incomplete centre line. But it was the letter 'A'.
標記:Then...broke(第一個轉折——中途失敗)/ I tried once more(第二次嘗試嘅開始信號)/ But – I drew it(第二個轉折——最終成功)——呢段有兩個"but"轉折,標記時要分清邊個but對應邊次嘗試,呢個正正係Q12嘅解題關鍵。
Para 10 (L.41-44)——
I had done it! ...the thing that was to give my mind its chance of expressing itself... I would speak through something more lasting than spoken words... my key to mental freedom.
Intro
An urban legend is any modern story, usually fictional, but which is told as if it really happened... Although most urban legends are false, some turn out to be true. Do you think they are true or false?
You've failed
...each was accosted by a forlorn beggar... None of the students stopped for him... he explained that because the students did not demonstrate...compassion, they had all failed.
標記:accosted(主詞係乞丐,唔係學生——Q4陷阱源頭)/ because...they had all failed(因果鏈,直接對應"why did they fail")
Quick thinking
"I won't accept this," ... "Do you know who I am?" Unimpressed, the teacher answered, "No." The student replied, "Good"...
Unlucky
...he simply copied it... "Twenty-five years ago, when I wrote this essay, it got a B."... there on the cover was a big A!
The pilot with the dog
...Everybody got off the plane except one gentleman who was blind... "Keith, we're in Sacramento..." ...People scattered. They not only tried to change planes, they also tried to change airlines!
標記:except(例外標記,揭示重要人物Keith)/ not only...also(遞進結構,強調反應誇張程度)——段尾呢句係全段嘅punchline,考「點解啲人反應咁大」(因為佢哋以為盲人揸緊飛機)。
Caught on film
the father took off his jacket to dance. When he later retrieved it, he discovered... unbeknown to him, could be seen in the background taking the money...
標記:it要圈——你上次Q11就中咗呢個陷阱(揀咗"the dance")/ unbeknown to him(戲劇反諷標記——當事人唔知道自己被錄咗低,呢個字本身已經暗示緊「意外揭盅」嘅劇情轉折)
Confusing packaging
...he had torn open his tea bag and emptied its contents into his cup... the bag itself was meant to be dipped, unopened...he confidently dropped an unopened envelope of sugar into his tea.
標記:torn open + emptied(第一個動作,茶葉已經散落杯中)/ dipped, unopened(正確做法,反襯下面佢做錯)/ confidently...unopened(諷刺——佢好有信心咁重複犯緊同一種誤解)——兩個動作要integrate做同一個最終畫面,呢個正正係Q13陷阱源頭。
14. Dimples on Demand
用戶:[重新上傳圖片:Dimples on Demand Passage A 全文] Analyze these files
《Dimples on Demand》——
Para 1 (L.1-7)
The secret of Gillian Chung Yan-tung's smile is its two distinct movements. "First I do this," she says... "And then …" With an effort she rolls her lips inwards. Perfect teeth flash, cheeks dimple, and suddenly this 21-year-old is a picture of teen innocence and nervous hope.
標記:○ this(要圈——即刻對應返"a movement of the mouth",Q2源頭)/ two distinct movements(數字+列舉,預告呢段主軸係「拆解笑容嘅機制」)/ ⇄ perfect teeth flash...nervous hope(表面完美,內裡緊張——矛盾配對,Q1嘅"unnatural"就係喺呢度)。
Para 2 (L.8-20)
"I used to practise this smile for hours," she says. "It still hurts." In Hong Kong's eternally sentimental and cynically manufactured Canto-pop industry, few bands are quite as manufactured as Twins... Hong Kong...appears to have no immunity against their cheerful faces... they have spread, like some kind of pink and fluffy mould, into every part of commercial life.
標記:practise...hurts(直接證據——笑容係練出嚟、仲會痛,同Para1呼應)/ ⇄ sentimental+cynically manufactured(呢篇最強嘅矛盾修辭,對應你之前Success筆記入面已經標低嘅組合)/ no immunity...mould(疾病/真菌隱喻——用負面意象形容「粉紅可愛」嘅商業現象,反諷力度好強)。
Para 3 (L.21-35)
...joined by stablemates...(Plus dancing Cup Noodles, inflatable phones and a string of other products, shamelessly placed.)...shooting their US$6 million (HK$46.8 million) international cinematic debut...
標記:stablemates(詞義推測,靠住後面"including Nicholas Tse...Joey Yung"呢啲同公司藝人名反推)/ shamelessly placed(評價字,批判置入式廣告)/ 數字(US$6 million/HK$46.8 million)——純事實題材料,唔使推斷。
Watching rehearsals is Arclight Film's Gary Hamilton...「Twins have huge international potential,」he says. 「Very lovely, very sexy,」he says, admiring the girls, dollar signs revolving in his eyes. 「Twins are innocence in a bikini.」
Para 5 (L.44-50)
...Choi has a cold and is spooning soup from a polystyrene bowl. Inevitably it is weird talking to a grown-up who spends every waking hour acting a teenage role.
Para 6 (L.51-57)
...an aide passes her a stack of photographs and a pen... 「It is hard work being in Twins,」she says. "But this was my dream and I want to make the most of it." Does she still dream now? 「No, these days I am so exhausted I am out the moment my head hits the pillow.」
標記:⇄ my dream...so exhausted(呢段核心對比——「夢想」同「疲累現實」嘅落差,呢句係典型會被問"how does Choi feel about her career now"嘅材料)/ 段末反問句"Does she still dream now?"
Para 7 (L.58-75)
...launched on the world in July 2000...entered the Top 20...went to No. 1...sold 50,000 to go platinum... "People like us because we are young and fresh," Choi says. "We put on a happy face, we sing happy songs and give people a happy feeling." ...their happy faces have been almost omnipresent. Advertising deals with huge multi-nationals have not just brought in revenue but made Twins impossible to avoid...
Para 8 (L.76-94)——
...as with all stories about conjoined twins, one can't help but wonder if they really get on. Moreover, if they split up, could they survive apart? Chung – the older of the duo – does seem more worldly. The tabloid press say that Choi is the secret smoker, but they tip Chung as the first boyfriend scandal and the most likely to make it solo... "Sometimes I hate the press," she says... "Of course I don't have a boyfriend. It would be impossible for me to have a boyfriend …" she says, suddenly all grown up... "I guess it is all a game. It's just that sometimes we can't see what is happening because we are just the pieces on the board."
標記:conjoined twins(全文最重要嘅象徵比喻,標題"Dimples on demand"嘅深層對應)/ if they split up, could they survive apart(懸念伏筆——直接對應Q11嘅"At least for now"答案來源)/ ⇄ Chung更worldly...Choi緋聞纏身(兩人形象對比)/ suddenly all grown up(轉折——由扮嫩突然轉做成熟語氣,作者自己觀察嘅描寫)/ pieces on the board(比喻,Q9源頭——冇乜控制權)。
Para 9 (L.95-100)——
She puts down her chopsticks and burps, a big, loud, rice-box burp. It's so un-Twin-like, and a cheeky smile steals across her face. For a split second it seems she is about to laugh, but then her lips roll inwards, her cheeks dimple and she is one half of the most saccharine Canto-pop duo in history. At least for now.
標記:but then her lips roll inwards——直接呼應返Para1個"rolls her lips inwards",證明即使喺完全私下、鬆懈嘅一刻(打完嗝),個訓練出嚟嘅笑容reflex都會自動啟動——呢個先係全文最強嘅首尾呼應,亦係Q10"un-Twin-like=rude"嘅深層原因(打嗝先係真我,個笑容先係manufactured) / saccharine(Q詞義題)/ At least for now(Q11懸念收結)。
Hong Kong Diary + Overworked and Underplayed
Hong Kong Diary
Source:http://www.lib.virginia.edu/subjects/amic/hkdiary.htm——
標題結構:大標題後有段背景介紹(3rd person講述"Hong Kong Diary was started by..."),跟住直接係電郵格式(From/Subject/Date),內文用數字方格編號(1-9)分段
I received a call from Wesley..."——第一人稱,但唔似My Left Foot咁一條時間線,而係逐個交代唔同人物(Wesley/Sally/Brad/Irene/Tina)嘅小故事
- ✅ 人物追蹤(好多名字:Wesley/Sally/Brad/Irene/Tina——邊個講邊個嘅細節要對準)
Para 1 (L.4-7):unemployed, in the middle of the serious business——建立Wesley嘅背景,純敘述,冇強評價。留意具體數字"twenty-six year old"、"a little over a week ago"——事實細節材料。
Para 2 (L.8-11):⇄ do not stand out physically...perfect English(表面睇唔出,但一開口就分別到——身份對比嘅核心觀察)/ tens of thousands(誇張式估算,反映呢個現象規模)。
Para 3 (L.12-15):⇄ not a desire for adventure...rather...higher salaries(明確嘅排除法對比——作者刻意否定咗浪漫原因,指向現實金錢原因,呢類"not X but Y"結構係常見態度/原因題材料)。
Para 4 (L.16-21)——全段係人物資料密集區:Wesley(most Canadian)/Sally(5-6年前,35歲,executive)/Brad(30代,冇中文,journalist)/Irene(3年前,25歲,US$60,000)。
Para 5 (L.22-26):⇄ seek her fortune...cramped apartment(懷抱憧憬 vs 現實局促環境,伏線鋪排——預告後面Tina故事會有反差)。the first time in her life(強調Tina缺乏經驗,呼應後段"inexperienced")。
Para 6 (L.27-31):pretty, shy, culture-shocked/very well-trained(母親轉述嘅評語,注意呢句係引語,唔一定係作者自己嘅判斷)/ ⇄ came to seek fortune...not proving to be a happy experience(夢想 vs 現實嘅落差,同上面Choi個"my dream...so exhausted"係同一種結構)/ "blubbering"(引號標住嘅口語詞,情緒證據)。
Para 7 (L.32-38):Hoping to comfort her(作者主觀意圖)/ ⇄ trying to comfort...brought her no comfort(好心做壞事嘅反差——作者自己承認"I realized I had only succeeded in making her feel even more inexperienced and insecure")/ 段尾"one week later...found a job"——轉折句,預告Tina故事將會有轉機。
Para 9 (L.43-45):⇄ Our parents left Asia to seek...in the West. We have returned to find them here(結尾金句——身份輪迴嘅諷刺,對稱句式"left...to seek X in the West" vs "returned to find [X] in HK")——呢句係全文主旨句,常考"what is the writer's main point"。
Overworked and Underplayed
Source:South China Morning Post, by Constance Haisma-Kwok → 報紙+記者具名 → 新聞特稿 標題結構:單一標題,冇分節小標題,但內文穿插大量具名專家引語(Dr Alvin Rosenfeld, William Fitzsimmons, Elisabeth Guthrie, Joanna Hotung, Sarah Andres, Rob Davidson) 開首:「Ten-year-old Linda is a typical Hong Kong primary school student...」——第三人稱,用具體案例做開場(case study lead),呢個係議題式特稿常見手法:先擺個真實例子,再擴展做普遍現象論證
- ✅ 對比/程度詞(too many, too much too soon, well-rounded kids but no well-rounded adults)
Para 2 (L.9-15):But is it the healthiest?——反問句,全文轉折起點(Tool:反問句通常直接對應"what is the purpose of paragraph 2")/ 新造詞列舉"over-scheduled kids"、"hyper-parenting"等——詞彙定義題材料。
Para 3 (L.16-20):Rosenfeld引語"because we sincerely want what's best..."——引語內嘅因果解釋,呢句解釋緊「父母點解會咁做」,常見"why do parents..."
Para 4 (L.21-27):Unfortunately(轉折詞,標住負面轉向)/ does not guarantee...let alone(遞進否定結構——雙重程度詞,常考"what does the writer imply")/ Fitzsimmons引語作外部佐證(哈佛招生官親證burnt-out現象)。
Para 5 (L.28-38):gone too far(程度詞,態度判斷)/ ⇄ substituting family meals...for violin lessons(家庭時間 vs 才藝訓練,對比結構)/ 「work themselves to death...work their children to death too」(引語,誇張修辭強調過勞程度,注意"死"呢個字係比喻唔係字面)。
Para 6 (L.39-49):even attribute...to(因果連接詞,連結過度安排 → 心理健康問題,呢句嘅"even"標住緊「呢個講法幾嚴重」)/ ⇄「well-rounded kids, but there are no well-rounded adults」(矛盾金句——目標同現實結果嘅反差,係全文最強嘅諷刺句,常考"what does this quote suggest")。
Para 7 (L.50-54):strongest in middle- to upper-middle-class families——範圍限定詞(唔係所有家庭都咁,只係特定階層),留意選項會唔會將呢個範圍擴大做"all families"嘅陷阱 / ⇄ not like writing an academic assignment...emotionally rich(教養 vs 學術任務對比,強調呢個技能嘅特殊性)。
Para 8 (L.55-63):amazing(Hotung自己嘅評價,引語,唔係作者觀點)/ even lie to us about the child's age——具體例證,反映競爭心態嘅誇張程度,常考"how competitive are parents"類細節題。
Para 9 (L.64-68):bad enough, but(遞進轉折——"失敗令小朋友失望"已經好差,但仲有更嚴重嘅問題緊隨其後)/ 因果鏈:"little time to create/imagine/socialise" → "missing key opportunities" → "serious lack of sleep"——三重後果堆疊,常考"what are the consequences"多項判斷題。
Para 10 (L.69-84):Andres引語"only one really needs a tutor...parents want them to do even better"——⇄ getting by...want them to do even better(小朋友已經夠好,但父母仍不滿足,對比核心)/ Davidson引語提供具體建議(play date, 9-10小時瞓眠)——呢類「專家建議」段落常考"what does X recommend"事實題。
Para 12 (L.93-99):however(轉折詞——由「邊啲活動係必須」轉去「揀活動要留意啱唔啱個小朋友」)/ Davidson引語"for some, one activity a day is too many, for others two is not"——對比結構,強調因人而異,常考"what does Davidson suggest parents should consider"。
Para 13 (L.100-105):Rosenfeld結尾引語"the efforts are justified by the rewards"——呼應返Para3佢自己講過嘅"want what's best",首尾呼應 / ⇄「worry about kids' boredom...but empty hours teach children how to create their own happiness」(矛盾配對——父母憂慮嘅嘢,恰恰係小朋友需要嘅嘢,全文結論句)。

用戶:[上傳圖片:Kites Passage A原文(Festivals and Celebrations in Japan/Kites in the United States部分) + Q15-16截圖,Q15標紅色X(錯),Q16標綠色✓(對)] Kites這篇文章只錯了第一題,你分析一下
Q15 — Paragraph 1: "a kite was used to..."
你答:C. lead the rebel forces 正確:A. help plan an attack
原文(L.1-13):
Because his army was small and because they were not well armed, he planned a surprise attack and to fly it over the emperor's palace. When the kite was over the palace, the string was marked. Later Han measured the string in order to determine how long a tunnel would be needed to bring the rebel forces inside the walls of the palace.
(L.9-10 "bring the rebel forces inside the walls"),但嗰句講嘅係隧道帶士兵入城,唔係鷂帶領/指揮軍隊。
"in order to"(目的連接詞)——「佢做呢個動作嘅目的係咩」,通常直接問"why did Han measure the string"
